MASTER (MSc) «DIABETES MELLITUS CARE"
Overview
The Postgraduate Program entitled “Master in Diabetes Mellitus Care” has been operating at the Nursing department of the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki since the academic year 2012-2013.
The “Master in Diabetes Mellitus Care” is divided into two sections:
1. Clinical Diabetes
2. Therapeutic Education in Diabetes
The Master’s Program aims to provide postgraduate education in diabetes. Through this M.Sc., graduates will gain strong scientific basis, new knowledge, experience and skills, so that they will be able to take care of and properly manage cases related to diabetes, as well acquiring an important qualification for successful careers in the private, public and academic sector.
The Greek National Health System currently operates a significant number of diabetic centers and clinics, most of which are not adequately staffed. These centers have significant deficiencies especially in scientific personnel (doctors, nurses, dietitians, psychologists). Similar deficiencies occur in the private health sector as well, as a result of the rapid increase in the incidence of diabetes. Therefore, the creation of specialized personnel in diabetes is required.
The total duration of studies for the “Master in Diabetes Mellitus Care" is three semesters. The first two semesters comprise courses focused on Diabetes, while the third semester includes the elaboration of the thesis. Instruction takes place at the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki every Friday evening and Saturday, so that prospective participants that work during the week can take part in the program. The required fee is 1500 Euros per Semester.
Candidates who can participate in the “Master in Diabetes Mellitus Care” are graduates from various University Departments in Greece or recognized equivalent institutions abroad. These departments include not only Nursing Departments and Medical Schools but Physiotherapists, Dietitians, Psychologists and other professionals in related disciplines are also eligible to participate.
